鈥淎s a management major with a concentration in international management, having firsthand experience with business dynamics outside of the United States has proved to be invaluable in my educational journey. 

I admit that I was initially hesitant to sign up. However, my Spanish professor, Dr. Carmela Mattza, emboldened me to study abroad. She saw my potential and pushed me to take the leap, explaining that while my classroom Spanish was strong, true fluency and confidence would come from full immersion. Combined with the foundation from my 蜜桃APP business courses, her encouragement was exactly what I needed.

Studying in Barcelona allowed me to gain a true global perspective about commerce and culture while building self-confidence and language fluency. In my business consulting class, we were tasked with creating a proposal for a Spain-based company looking to expand worldwide. As my group analyzed the project, I realized how easily the skills I learned at 蜜桃APP transferred to real-life workplace challenges. Completing this process made me feel much better equipped to face similar professional situations in the future.鈥�

Summer Iceland Seminar | Global Learning Abroad

鈥淏efore this program, Iceland was a place I had only seen through pictures and videos on social media. I never imagined I would actually have the opportunity to study there, let alone learn firsthand from so many different Icelandic businesses and organizations. 

Throughout the program, we visited organizations across different industries, from a data center to a power plant to the U.S. Embassy to companies involved in shipping and global freight forwarding. Being able to step inside these organizations, hear directly from professionals and see how they operate gave me a perspective that I could have never gained from simply learning about international business in a classroom. 

One of the experiences that stood out to me most was visiting the Icelandic Ocean Cluster and learning about Iceland鈥檚 approach to sustainability and the idea of creating more value while producing less waste. I have always considered myself environmentally conscious. I try to recycle when possible, reuse bags and I am mindful of how much I waste. However, Iceland showed me that sustainability can be taken to a whole new level. I was fascinated to learn how Icelandic companies are finding ways to utilize parts of fish that would otherwise be discarded and turn them into entirely new products. What might be considered waste elsewhere can become health and pharmaceutical products, omega supplements and even fish-skin products used to create skin grafts to heal human wounds. Seeing sustainability lead directly to innovation completely changed the way I thought about being environmentally conscious can look like, especially in businesses and corporate social responsibility.鈥�

Business in Taiwan | 蜜桃APP Study Abroad

The opportunity to study in Taiwan has significantly contributed to my academic and professional development. The mix of company visits and cultural immersion helped me see firsthand how global businesses operate and how innovation and sustainability influence the products we use every day. Each business tour taught me something I never would have learned from a classroom lecture. Being in unique environments, often with language barriers, pushed me to communicate more effectively, adapt quickly and remain confident even when things are unfamiliar. These skills, combined with the new perspective I gained, strengthen my interest in pursuing a career where I can work closely with others. I鈥檝e realized how much I value interacting with diverse groups of people, supporting them and helping them achieve their goals, which reinforces my desire to be in a managerial role in the future. 

My time in Taiwan was both academically insightful and personally meaningful. The program challenged and inspired me and opened my mind to new possibilities for my career and personal life. I am truly grateful for the opportunity the Rucks International Scholars Award made possible, and I will always carry the lessons and memories from this experience with me.鈥�
