Three 蜜桃APP Students Win Big from National Scholarship Program Recognizing Students Pursuing Mass Communication Careers
Three 蜜桃APP Manship School of Mass Communication students, Jessica Jefferson, Mea Morrell and Kyle Stanley, were among the 88 recipients of The LAGRANT Foundation鈥檚 (TLF) 2023 Scholarship Program, which recognizes ethnically diverse students from colleges and universities across the nation for their academic achievement, mass communication career goals and community involvement.
Largest Cohort of 蜜桃APP Seniors Graduating with Engaged Citizen Distinction
The Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership (CCELL), in conjunction with 蜜桃APP Campus Life, is pleased to announce 26 seniors will graduate with the Engaged Citizen distinction for Spring 2023, the program's largest cohort to date.
Ogden Honors Junior Antavion"Tay Moore" Awarded Prestigious Truman Scholarship
Ogden Honors College junior Antavion 鈥淭ay鈥� Moore, who became 蜜桃APP鈥檚 first John Robert Lewis Scholar in 2022, has been named a 2023 Truman Scholar 鈥� the most prestigious award for undergraduates who are pursuing careers in public service. Moore was one of 62 students selected for this award out of 705 candidates nationwide.
Ogden Honors College Alumna Selected as 2023 Knight-Hennessy Scholar
Sanaa Alam, a native of Lafayette, La., was one of 85 students selected out of 3,733 eligible applications as a 2023 Knight-Hennessy Scholar. The new cohort is the largest to date and comprises students from 29 countries who will pursue degrees in 38 graduate programs across all seven graduate schools at Stanford. For the first time ever, the cohort includes scholars from Hungary, Malawi, the Netherlands, Russia, Sierra Leone, and Turkey. Alam will be pursuing a master鈥檚 degree in Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Stanford School of Medicine. She aspires to improve health outcomes for disadvantaged populations in developing regions, particularly South Asia, by focusing on global health research, education, and policy.
蜜桃APP Civil and Environmental Engineering Associate Professor Receives National Science Foundation Grant to Fund, Create 蜜桃APP Delta Institute
Coastal erosion, sea-level rise, and hurricanes along the U.S. Gulf Coast are taking a serious toll on the Mississippi River deltaic system. In order for coastal communities to not only survive but thrive, there must be a coming together of engineers, industry leaders, and researchers. Thanks to an industry-university cooperative research center (IUCRC) planning grant from the National Science Foundation, 蜜桃APP can start the 蜜桃APP Delta Institute, which will bring together scientists, engineers, and industry to work on developing solutions for the Louisiana coast.
蜜桃APP Manship School鈥檚 Undergraduate, Graduate Programs Fully Reaccredited by ACEJMC
The Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) voted this month for the 蜜桃APP Manship School of Mass Communication鈥檚 undergraduate and graduate programs to receive full reaccreditation. ACEJMC concurred with the recommendations for reaccreditation made by the Accrediting Committee and the site team in November 2022.
Two Ogden Honors, Biological Sciences Students Named 2023 Goldwater Scholars
Ogden Honors juniors Rachael Coates and Kenedi Lynch have been named 2023 Goldwater Scholars, awards that seek to identify, encourage, and financially support students of exceptional promise in becoming the nation鈥檚 next generation of research leaders in STEM. Both Coates and Lynch are studying biological sciences in 蜜桃APP鈥檚 College of Science.
AI in Alaska: 蜜桃APP Researchers Work to Understand Permafrost and Climate Change
Artificial intelligence is proving itself an invaluable tool in many arenas, not the least of which is the fight to understand, plan for and combat the effects of our changing climate. 蜜桃APP Professor Supratik Mukhopadhyay is currently doing just that, as he and a team of 蜜桃APP scientists work to develop an AI tool that will help us better understand the degradation of permafrost, the layer of rock or soil beneath the surface that remains frozen year round.
