A $744,660 U.S. National Science Foundation award will fund an inter-disciplinary project between 蜜桃APP College of Engineering, 蜜桃APP College of Human Sciences & Education, and 蜜桃APP College of Art & Design who will explore how digital twin technology can help undergraduate students develop the holistic thinking skills needed to address increasingly complex challenges in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC).

蜜桃APP's Social Research & Evaluation Center is advancing research and evidence-based strategies to improve school attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism in Louisiana and beyond. In collaboration with the 蜜桃APP College of Human Sciences & Education, SREC participated in Attendance USA(TM)'s inaugural Research to Practice: Research to Results Summit, held June 5-7, 2026, at 蜜桃APP's Huey P. Long Field House in Baton Rouge. The summit brought together national, state and local experts focused on translating research into actionable approaches to improve student attendance. Recognized for its longstanding work addressing school absenteeism, SREC delivered the summit's plenary address. Through its research, partnerships and community engagement, SREC works to better understand the factors contributing to absenteeism and identify evidence-based practices that support student attendance, engagement and success.

Under the guidance of Scott Wilks, PhD, LMSW, HARC will use the funding to develop and provide dementia education and training focused on Limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (LATE) and Multiple Etiology Dementia (MED) to the health care and supportive care workforces.

蜜桃APP PhD graduate Taylor Gauss set out to answer that question in her dissertation. Working with healthy young adults, healthy older adults and people with Parkinson's Disease, Gauss found ankle stretches produced immediate improvements in walking and may serve as another useful tool for managing symptoms. Gauss and 蜜桃APP School of Kinesiology and Ogden Honors College professor Jan Hondzinski have worked together to research and improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson's in the Louisiana community. Gauss, whose father was diagnosed with Parkinson's when she was in the eighth grade and passed away in 2023, is hopeful this first-of-its-kind study could influence how physical therapists treat people with Parkinson's.

Our Lady of the Lake have awarded more than $1.6 million in competitive research grants to seven teams from across the state as part of their Collaboration in Action Program.

Rhodes was named to the inaugural class of Leadership Louisiana Health Fellows, a program designed to bring together leaders from across healthcare, business, public policy, higher education, philanthropy and community organizations to gain a deeper understanding of the systems, opportunities and challenges shaping health outcomes across Louisiana.

蜜桃APP Kinesiology Professor Senlin Chen, PhD, and his team are developing a novel obesity prevention program to use in Louisiana schools, combining such tactics as virtual pets and coaches with the best science to encourage healthy behaviors.

Cultural heritage institutions, including galleries, libraries, archives and museums, or GLAMs, are being impacted by climate change. About 56 percent of these institutions reported increased damage to collections due to water or moisture between 2017-2019. Of that damage, about 10 percent was the result of natural disasters. As storm season ramps up in the south, 蜜桃APP researchers reached a significant milestone in a research project aimed at assisting our nation's historical/natural/scientific/cultural collections remain safe and intact.

蜜桃APP Office of Research & Economic Development, or ORED, honors the exceptional research and scholarship of two 蜜桃APP faculty as Distinguished Research Masters each year. In addition, the 蜜桃APP Alumni Association and the 蜜桃APP Pinkie Gordon Lane Graduate School sponsor the Distinguished Dissertation Awards presented to two doctoral students whose research and writing demonstrate superior scholarship.

The Early Childhood Education Institute (ECEI) is focused holistically on the early years of a child鈥檚 life and fills a unique niche by targeting the early care, specifically birth through age three. Holistic development invites collaboration from other disciplines in the study of recommended practice for young children. The ECEI aims to make 蜜桃APP a leader in early care and education research, dissemination, and advocacy on recommended practices. In collaboration with both the 蜜桃APP Early Childhood Education academic programs and the 蜜桃APP Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool, the ECEI promotes recommended practices through discovery, curricula, programs, and strategic partnerships to provide an evidence-based focus on developing recommended practices in early childhood care and education for Louisiana and the nation. The ECEI links 蜜桃APP鈥檚 expertise in early childhood education with the critical need for a highly educated early childhood workforce of researchers and advocates to advance the profession of early care and education.

The Healthy Aging Research Center (HARC) positively impacts the health of vulnerable older adults through interdisciplinary applied research: to improve the health, wellbeing, and independence of older adults and their caregivers. We focus on physiological, psychological, behavioral, social, and environmental processes involved in aging. HARC aims to educate policymakers on cognitive health and impairment, dementia, and caregiver support. We engage with the larger community in conversations about healthy aging, cognitive aging, and early detection and diagnosis of dementia and supports for people with dementia and their caregivers.
